We already know the clock on the PlayStation 4 is beginning to slowly tick down to its final minutes. If everything is to be believed, we already know a developer such as CD Projekt Red may already have their hands on one of Sony’s developer kits. While the possibility could be there with Mark Cerny, Sony’s lead architect on the PlayStation 4, already beginning to make tours to meet with developers regarding Sony hardware.
Since last month, we’ve been spending a lot of time testing the latest major firmware update, Firmware 5.50, which comes with quite a few welcomed changes including system-wide supersampling, better parental controls and plenty more. Starting today, this mandatory update is now available for all PlayStation 4 owners and will be required in order to access your systems online features.
Since the release of the PlayStation 4, we’ve seen the console grow into something spectacular, but at the same time, something lacking some much needed features fans have been begging for since this generation started. Features such as the ability to watch 4K movies off a disk, the ability to change our PSN ID’s on a whim, and even the ability to play our digital and physical games we purchased on the PlayStation 3.
2018 has been off to a great start. Sony broke nearly 6 million consoles sold during the holiday season and they even managed to bring some outstanding deals on some of this biggest hits to life in their “4 Weeks of Holiday Sales”. But with that having come to a slow end tomorrow, it’s time to set our eyes to the future and that’s exactly what Sony is ready to have us do.
If you’re Sony, 2016 was a solid year, and it’s extremely hard to continue the momentum you’ve already started. Going into 2017 would be a difficult follow-up due to your A+ library, solid console support, and PlayStation Plus offers. With Microsoft and Sony continually trade blows, Nintendo has been in the background working hard and blazing trails.
Even though Paris Games Week is just getting started in Paris, France, Sony decided to give it their all, something they’ve been doing since the announcement of the PlayStation 4. Today, that hasn’t changed, and Sony once more did it again. With a clash of game trailers, release dates, beta dates, and reveals: the company hasn’t had any signs of slowing down.

If you’ve been surfing around the internet, there’s no doubt you’ve been reading that Michael Prachter, an analyst for video games, social media, digital media and electronics analyst over at Wedbush Securities; has said that he’s sure we’ll see the PlayStation 5 in 2019. If this news is true, it could very well be slightly damning for those who have just started investing into the PlayStation 5. It’ll even be damning for developers who have yet to release their triple-A PlayStation 4 titles.
This news brings in some wonderment as to why we would even see the PlayStation 5 in 2019. If we do, would that not hurt the PlayStation 4 title and branding? Yes, it actually would, and that’s what we are here to discuss while Sony begins to decide if they want to proceed forth with that release window.
According to a Sony Corporate Strategy Meeting for the Fiscal Year of 2017, they have announced that PlayStation Network has announced that they have broken 70 million users, but however, Sony has not announced what it means to be “active” or when the number had been broken. There’s no doubt that this number was likely surpassed based on how many users are active on PlayStation Network at one time using PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and their PlayStation Vita family of consoles.
The PlayStation Vita is officially dying and it’s absolutely Sony’s fault that it is happening. There was a rather large market, but unfortunately, there are not enough steps being taken to save it.
