Rumour: PlayStation 4’s 4K Upgrade is Seeming to be More Likely

So we’ve had PlayStation 4 consoles for a while now. We’ve seen them struggle with older games and even some newer games from time to time due to poor optimization or just poor hardware. I’d have to go with the first one on this. However, what if we were able to see that change? According to a report on Giant Bomb suggests that sources have outlined what the PlayStation 4 “Neo” will do. Neo being the rumoured code name at this time. While it is handling a bit more power in all areas, players can expect that games will not be segregating players from each other, this same thing has happened before with both PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 owners where people who decided to upgrade saw minor increases in performance. Though not all that much in the long run. I can imagine, however, VR owners are going to want this newer console to get the most out of their VR experience seeing as how the current PlayStation 4 may struggle a bit with a .5GHz bandwidth issue in processing power, let alone the rather large increase in memory access.

CPU 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz
GPU AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz
Memory 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

But should we really be jumping for joy yet at this announcement? While it seems highly plausible that Sony will be doing this in the near future, it’s hard to say just when they will do so, especially with the PlayStation VR already being a steep 399.99 USD as a VR bundle. For those who already have many of the supplies needed? The idea of upgrading is harsh and will cause players to seriously re-consider their purchase. I know I for one am even though the press coverage is needed, but for personal use? It’s steep and rather painful. Though Sony has done this before with the PlayStation Move in order to push units out (we saw how not-so-good that thing did and it’s coming back with PlayStation VR).

With this new console the suspicion that there will be some heavy changes can’t really be pointed out just yet as we can suspect that the “Neo” will be using the same everything to run it, just it’ll be a bit faster, support games a bit better, and will allow for better optimization for VR games so that players can get the most out of their experience without having any hindered performance at all. Now if we see “Neo” exclusive games? That’ll make it where things get ugly since the newer console will offer developers a chance to lean towards the favor of the upgraded hardware. While we can suspect some games that currently offer 4 person cooperative play due to restrictions, we can also bet that’ll be safe to assume we’ll see those same games on the Neo to offer double that if not triple it due to the new memory capabilities. Unfortunately, we’ve not heard anything from Sony quite yet, but with E3 just around the corner? Expect some possibly large news.

The long run question is though? What will Sony put as the price tag? Will they cut down the cost on the older models to offer a better business model for consumers or will we see the new PlayStation 4 “Neo” surpass the PS4 and remain at the same price tag for those who want 4K gaming and for those that don’t? Seems like we’ll find out when the time comes.

Reboots and Remakes Are in Fashion, So Here’s a Few That Need the Treatment

So in the past few months, even years, we’ve been getting a lot of remakes and reboots, even “HD” ports. We’ve been seeing games like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Dishonored, Ratchet & Clank, and now we’re even seeing titles like God Eater getting the treatment. So what happens when this can of worms gets opened? We get some games we’d like to see on this chart, so here’s a list of games that’d make great upgrades to be on par with their sister titles. So take a look at our top ten “Definitive Edition” game bundles we’d like to see get remastered.

10: Dead Space Trilogy

DeadSpace_2_-_Dementia

So we all know you can’t hear anything in space except for the dramatic vacuuming of air, explosions, and yourself screaming inside of your own space helmet. For Isaac Clark, that’s not a choice he gets to have, and fortunately his space horror for him is our viewing pleasure. Known for its dislodging enemy parts strategically in order to kill them as well as the nuisance of limited ammo supplies, players dove in for a horror treat that left us clawing at EA’s doorsteps for more. Unfortunately the series seems dead in the water, but if fans get what they want, it’s pretty damn likely this is one of those top trilogies they’ll want to sustain their need for a good horror survival series that pushed the limits on gore effects.

9: Battlefield Bad Company 1 & 2

battlefield_Bad_Company_SC01

If you ever wondered what it’d be like to be part of the misfits in the United States Military, Battlefield Bad Company 1 & 2 took us for that joy ride across scenes of delight as we managed to piss off the Russian’s as we could in comedic style. While the series was at times downright hard to take seriously, the game offered the amount of military and comical mischief we needed. Plus it had Haggard who was an explosives maniac that would do anything to see some explosives go off. If he wasn’t there, it’s pretty set in stone this series would’ve flopped, but thanks to its innovation in multiplayer mechanics and mischief in its story? Battlefield Bad Company 1 & 2 only got better with a Golf Course warzone to enjoy. Now if only we could see it modernized with Battlefield 2142.

8: Resistance Trilogy

Resistance_FoM_SC01

While Resistance saw itself with a few reboots that did utterly horrible, Resistance itself offered a unique blend of science fiction blended in with World War 2, which allowed for a unique twist of things as “$hit hit the fan”. For fans this included bigger, meaner aliens, bigger as well as meaner weapons, and a massive online multiplayer arena title that sent fans screeching across alleyways and through corridors in order to secure their kill. Unfortunately the series saw a drop off due to poor sales of Resistance 3 and Resistance Burning Skies. While both games were troubled, their multiplayer halves were a blast, and they kept true to what the original two did. Now if only Sony would hire Insomniac to remaster it or even reboot the series. If only.

7: Mass Effect Trilogy

mass-effect-characters-pane

While BioWare is very well known for Dragon Age and even Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, their Trilogy titled “Mass Effect” has been one of the most revered franchises in gaming history due to its character development, storytelling elements, character creation tools, and even its approach to open-world exploration. As the series proceeded the love it has by the fans has continued to rapidly grow and seems it’ll keep doing so over the years. With Mass Effect Andromeda slated for 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, we can oly hope that BioWare will let us revisit the Shepard Trilogy in the near future.

6: Jade Empire

Jade-Empire-Shot-04.jpg

Years upon years ago when the Xbox Classic Console released, we were given a glimpse at the genius behind the minds at BioWare. In turn they gave us a tail that took us through a mystical land in China, here we mastered ghosts, evil pirates, and a wonderous tale that took us through mythical lands in order to overcome odds against evil. Because of this title many fans grew to love the mystical appeal that it carried with it and continue to discuss it to this day. The game has seen multiple free-to-buy releases that bring fans from all over the world in and even causes a few to boot up their Xbox 360’s or even Xbox Classic’s to play the title. If Microsoft and BioWare gave it a re-release with updated graphics and all previously released content? The game would surely take over as a “Martial Art masterpiece”.

5: Call of Duty Modern Warfare Trilogy

CoD_MW_SC01

Before the series had been as highly regarded as it is competitively, Call of Duty was looking for a major turn in pacing as well as times of war. When announced Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare looked to change the playing field much like Battlefield 2: Modern Combat had  by taking us to the modern setting of warfare. With Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare the fame behind the franchise began to take off as it introduced weapon skins, customizations, kill streaks, and even player rank prestige, which demonstrated a players time on multiplayer. Even with the mutliplayer being phenomenal as it was, the campaign took many of the same strides as players got to see a bigger than life private war between the United States Special Forces and an elite group of terrorists that sought to bring the world about them down in flames.

4: Bioshock Trilogy

bioshock_Triple_pack

If the idea of being thousands of leagues below the sea wasn’t already disturbing enough, what about the idea that a science experiment has gone completely wrong, and in turn players are being thrown into the middle of it all in order to explore their options for survival. For Bioshock, that is the case as players found themselves attempting to survive the madness that pursued with special abilities and even the games unique twist of survival horror as fans began to fight their way through the world around them. Luckily the stories knew how to draw the worst out of people as moral decisions eventually came to play.

3: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

January 29th, 2011 @ 19:11:28

When the title initially re-established the franchise, Deus Ex was already renown for its use of futuristic technology and running among titles such as Blade Runner. Luckily for fans, the franchise stuck true to what the series was about, but with technology as well as time, Deus Ex changed in order to modernize itself to a set of RPG and FPS like rules. If that wasn’t enough, players had to make decisions that made their character as well as the player push their limits of patience and situational awareness as players sought to find out what was going on as characters and enemies became augmented with cybertechnology to better their lives as well as become a lethal force within the world. With its success and upcoming launch for the sequel, it’d be hard to not see Square Enix re-releasing the title for next gen consoles as the 1080p/60fps quality the PC version was known for.

2: Soul Sacrifice Delta

SoulSacrificeFront

If you ever wondered how hard games could get, you’ve probably played Dark Souls to get a feel for that or even Bloodborne, but what about this small title by the name of Soul Sacrifice Delta that was made by Keiji Inafune’s team at Comcept, it was not weird to see a title that blended fairy tales and horror together into an intriguing story for PlayStation Vita owners. However, for this adventure, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners were left int he dark without a clue as to what the game was like. Now that some of them have tasted it on Vita? The craving has begun t o move to PlayStation 4 as the console begins to game steady steam-ahead and continues to dominate in today’s market.

1: Dark Souls & Demon’s Souls

demons-souls

Known as the hardest games in the world, both of these two are predecessors to the gruesomely painful series that we’ve come to know and love over the years. Luckily the series has continued to remain as famous as it has been, but there’s something special about both Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls. These two games set the stage for what we know and love now as well as their continued evolution in modern gaming. Originally known to be the two toughest games of all time, both Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls challenged gamers in ways never before seen through traps, a story that was as desolate as a desert, and even harder than anything we had seen before. Both games gave a generous nod to the retro style of games where difficulty was non-existent and only was alleviated as the players skill grew. However, these two changed that, and grew increasingly more difficult as players progressed and remained doing so all the way to the end and past that as gamers began to take on New Game+ modes. It’d be a wonder to see what the two would look like upgraded to the Dark Souls III standard.

Closing Statement:

We all know there is a ton of great games from many generations before the current one, which leads to gamers wanting many many ways to revisit their classic games. Out of all the games you played, what ones didn’t make our top ten cut? Let us know in the comments.

E.O.D Tech Site: DOOM – Multiplayer Hands-On Impressions

I want to start out by stating that this is my first time experiencing a DOOM game. There are several things that are great about the game and as to be expected – items that need improvement. Playing this in beta did have the content for a limited time play during its beta weekends. Out of the maps and game modes that have been confirmed for DOOM, the beta received two of each in the competitive modes. Three if you count Random, which combined both Team Death Match and Warpath into one and it varied which was played between matches. DOOM Multiplayer is fast paced no matter what mode you play. Never having experienced DOOM before, but having played quite a few FPS (First Person Shooter) titles; I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the fast pace play this provides.

DOOM_SC02

The maps released for beta were Infernal and Heatwave. Both seem to be mid-size and well laid out allowing for various approaches to combat. Infernal, as implied by the name, is a Hell based map with both open areas and enclosed ones consisting of rooms and hallways. The biggest thing to keep in mind with this map is even if in an open area watch your footing. Otherwise, you will find yourself failing to swim in lava. As for heatwave you will enjoy running around a facility filled with twists, turns and many opportunities to ambush or be ambushed. Both maps have aesthetics that are murky yet beautiful and are in tune with the darker nature of Doom.

The two games modes that beta had available were TDM (TeamDeath Match) and Warpath, as stated before. If you haven’t played or don’t know what TDM is, it is a team of x amount of players vs the same size team in a kill or be killed mode. Winning is as simple as being the first team reaching kill limit. The other mode, Warpath, is simple yet strategic. The point of Warpath is to capture and hold the objective. As simple as that sounds, you have to defend the objective as it follows a predetermined path around the map. After capturing the zone you only have to maintain a presence in the zone while it is contested. Otherwise you do not have to stay in the zone to keep it captured. Since this is the case strategy comes into play on whether to ambush or guard the objective.

DOOM_SC01

The major thing that needs to be balanced would be weapons, not equipment but the guns. All the guns in doom have a primary and secondary fire. Out of the seven that were released four (Heavy AR, Super Shotgun, Vortex Rifle, and Static Rifle) have a secondary fire that is a zoom or slight adjustment to primary fire only. Two of the remaining three (Plasma Rifle and the Lightning Gun) are the only ones to give an additional ability for the secondary fire. The final weapon, the Rocket launcher, has a secondary fire in which you can use to trigger the rocket explosion before impact while in flight. The guns in DOOM need some re-balancing due to either being to OP (Overpowered), and or for being to weak. During the beta due to being overpowered the Super Shotgun and Rocket launcher were most commonly used.

Probably one of the most appealing things about DOOM is the customization for characters. Not only can you customize the color and pattern for guns, you can do so with you character as well. Along with being able to change color and pattern on the armor you can change the armor itself. The best thing about this is you don’t change a whole armor set but can change a single piece at a time like a leg or chest piece. Similarly to that of the Halo multiplayer. Like a lot of multiplayer games you get to use taunts. As you level up you get more taunts and can customize them in your character screen. As a personal favorite out of the taunts available in beta mine would have to be the Carlton. The last thing that can be tweaked for your character is the implementation of hack modules. Hack modules provide temporary boosts to different aspects of game play during a match. Anything from bonus starting armor to exta experience per kill. You are able to equip up to four of these hack mods prior to starting a match. Everytime you cpawn in the match you can swicth which one is active. However, keep in mind that each mod has a limited time on how long you can use it, but the timer only depletes when you are alive.

Over all whether you are new to DOOM or a die hard fan, Doom Multiplayer is definitely something to look forward to.

Review: Koi – A Graphical Beauty in a Pond Full of Big Title Games

Pros:
+Graphically beautiful even for how simplistic the title is
+Gameplay offers a variety of gameplay types in a single title
+Collectible hunting is thoroughly enjoying
+A musical score that is enlightening and relaxing to listen to while playing

Cons:
-Menus are hard to navigate as they do not highlight what the menu items are

KOI_20160114065615

When we think of Koi we think of their artistic uses, their beauty, and the fact they represent inner peace to a lot of people. We also think of the fact they are highly revered in many parts of Asia, which makes this title rather unique of a choice for China’s developer studio Dotoyou to release the game outside of China. With the console ban having been lifted last year, it’ll be interesting to see if we get more titles like this, but for now? This small indie title is more than enough to give some attention to the import market that seems to be making its way over seas.

As someone that’s always hard pressed to be entertained by indie games, I was taken back a bit when Koi was presented to me through our teams inbox. As I stared at the review code I was curious to more about this title. Sure I’d glanced over the press emails a few times, but I didn’t, at the time, feel that Koi would be hard pressed to grab the attention of many of our readers. After a short bit, I decided to boot up the PlayStation Store via my phone, enter the code, download, and sit down in front of my PlayStation 4 to see this title that had been sent to us. As an introduction to Dotoyou’s title Koi, I was introduced to it by a very simple appearance at first, the title screen was warm, welcoming, and quite easy to take in. Once entering the main menu? Well that was a task of its own, but after a few minutes of trial and error? I found myself being introduced to this simple, artistically easy on the eyes, and musically warm welcoming title.

KOI_20160114064852

Dotoyou’s title is a charming one, one that greets us right from the start with the realization this game will seem rather simple, so much so that I’m surprised it’s not a tablet game instead, but it it’ll make do on PS4 thanks to titles such as Flower and Flow that show titles like this have a spot on home consoles. When starting to play, Koi is rather simple to begin. Players take control of an orange Koi who seems pretty happy in his or her home river, going under lotus blossoms is charming , but quickly turns into a puzzle as players will be hard-pressed to navigate to missing Koi that will be required to open each one, and through them activating a piece of the musical score is rather charming as each fellow koi opens a lotus blossom. After a short while? The game begins to take a different pace as black, much larger, and rather angry koi begin to take over the streams.

As they do players will find that this game is no longer just about finding their friends, but also trying to survive in a much more brutal setting. One that requires patience, resilience, and the ability to navigate patrol paths. As players get this down, the story begins to unwind itself as the music grows darker, settings begin to change, and the evident story underneath the pages reveals itself. While the game seems to be about a koi surviving in a world that is changing, the game isn’t just about that. Underneath it, the game expresses a very real problem for China, one that isn’t just about economics, population, but one that is evidently about China’s ongoing pollution issue. One that has left our digital friend in dismay as the world around him or her gets dirtier, harder to live in, and just purely more volatile than ever.

Koi – PlayStation 4 [Reviewed]
Developer: Dotoyou
Publisher: Oasis Games
Price: $9.99 USD
Released: Available Now

As the game progresses puzzles will variate into “Simon Says”, grid based puzzles, and even a match making puzzle. While the difficulty in doing these seems like they should be evident; the challenge however isn’t, and it says the same through out the game. While this may be welcomed by some, those looking for a scale in difficulty won’t find it with this game as it is a game that seems to have been made for players of all ages. While some of the most innovative changes were subtle, they didn’t stick throughout the game nor did this ideology move to the overall title itself where players will find themselves scratching their heads as one of the levels offered up the ability to be taken backwards by water currents while others included avoiding the much larger back Koi’s that sought to eat the playable character. While the game does offer up collectibles, they’re not as overall hard to find as one would hope. Sure one or two hid under twigs and lotus blossoms, that was about as difficult as most of them managed to get. Unfortunately, the game is short, ranking in at roughly 4-5 hours at tops depending on if you are treasure hunting or not. For those looking for a short exploration through some very real problems in China and around the world? This is a game that is creative, beautiful at every bit you could expect of it.

Capcom Announces New Features for Umbrella Corps.

Resident Evil has become a staple point in the gaming industry, but also has become a franchise that will turn heads with new games. Today Capcom has confirmed that new features will be getting introduced to Umbrella Corps such as the Antarctic Base from Resident Evil Code: Veronica and also a new a new mutation to the game titled the “Mutated Zombie” starting on the games release on June 21st, 2016.

Mutated_Zombie_psd_jpgcopy

Just like in the title “Resident Evil Code: Veronica”, the base has remained heavily destroyed after the events of Claire’s ongoing fight to live through there. The base itself will offer vertically expansion gameplay as players will take place across three floors while encountering thrilling fast-paced combat in a deadly game of “hide-and-seek”. While the t-virus has remained rampant within the base, there has been time for these new “Mutated Zombies” that will be experienced through the games “Experiment Mode” of Antarctic Base and the Multi-Mission Mode’s SP DNA  Hunter ruleset. This includes advanced states of mutation and highlights the many versions of the virus spanning from both T-Virus or C-Virus while making the enemies blood thirsty. Harder than normal to defeat some of them will also be immune to the Zombie Jammer allowing them to also make their own kind immune to the Jammer.

Also being added into the shooting mayhem are the special “Mutated Zombies” that can be found in the single player Experiment Mode’s Antarctic Base map and in the Multi-Mission Mode’s SP DNA Hunter ruleset. Featuring advanced states of mutation, there are many viruses spreading across the infected zones in Umbrella Corps and it’s unclear whether the T-virus or C-virus is responsible for these blood thirsty enemies. Harder to defeat than normal zombies, not only are they unaffected by the Zombie Jammer, but they are also able to render the Zombie Jammer temporarily ineffective against other creatures near the player.

Umbrella Corps is a new fast-paced third person shooter set in the iconic Resident Evil universe. The competitive online game will feature quick, intense matches in compact battle zones themed from historic  Resident Evil environments. The game utilizes the Unity engine developed by Unity Technologies.  Umbrella Corps  will be available digitally for an MSRP of $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99 on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and PC across North America and Europe on June 21, 2016.

Vainglory to have First-Ever Collegiate Exhibition at PAX East

twitch_logo

As many of you know and have read time and time again, I’ve been a gigantic supporter and fan of Vainglory. It’s been a title that has held a soft spot in my heart for quite sometime and continues to do so to this day. As a part of this news, the guys at Super Evil Mega Corp and College StarLeague (CSL) are hosting the first and largest collegiate gaming organization to date so college players will find it easier and more rewarding to play Vainglory.

If you haven’t been watching, you probably wouldn’t know we’ve been streaming quite a bit of the newly released MOBA Paragon by Epic Games. Having thrown a whopping $100 USD when it was announced to help support the game’s development, and to just show interest in it, Paragon has been capturing a soft spot in the hearts of fans. As part of the games ongoing search to keep a fresh roster while fixing the game itself, Epic Games has done great keeping new characters in the mix. As of recently, the studio has announced that Iggy & Scorch will be taking to the battlefield and tearing players apart soon.

We’ve seen some amazing matches and strategies in Paragon, and it’s time to shake it up again. We’d like to introduce you to our newest Hero(es) … Iggy & Scorch. Get your first look at the flame-wielding duo below. You’ll be able to play Iggy & Scorch as part of our update on Thursday, April 21.
