Rumour: PlayStation 4’s 4K Upgrade is Seeming to be More Likely

So we’ve had PlayStation 4 consoles for a while now. We’ve seen them struggle with older games and even some newer games from time to time due to poor optimization or just poor hardware. I’d have to go with the first one on this. However, what if we were able to see that change? According to a report on Giant Bomb suggests that sources have outlined what the PlayStation 4 “Neo” will do. Neo being the rumoured code name at this time. While it is handling a bit more power in all areas, players can expect that games will not be segregating players from each other, this same thing has happened before with both PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 owners where people who decided to upgrade saw minor increases in performance. Though not all that much in the long run. I can imagine, however, VR owners are going to want this newer console to get the most out of their VR experience seeing as how the current PlayStation 4 may struggle a bit with a .5GHz bandwidth issue in processing power, let alone the rather large increase in memory access.

CPU 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz
GPU AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz
Memory 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

But should we really be jumping for joy yet at this announcement? While it seems highly plausible that Sony will be doing this in the near future, it’s hard to say just when they will do so, especially with the PlayStation VR already being a steep 399.99 USD as a VR bundle. For those who already have many of the supplies needed? The idea of upgrading is harsh and will cause players to seriously re-consider their purchase. I know I for one am even though the press coverage is needed, but for personal use? It’s steep and rather painful. Though Sony has done this before with the PlayStation Move in order to push units out (we saw how not-so-good that thing did and it’s coming back with PlayStation VR).

With this new console the suspicion that there will be some heavy changes can’t really be pointed out just yet as we can suspect that the “Neo” will be using the same everything to run it, just it’ll be a bit faster, support games a bit better, and will allow for better optimization for VR games so that players can get the most out of their experience without having any hindered performance at all. Now if we see “Neo” exclusive games? That’ll make it where things get ugly since the newer console will offer developers a chance to lean towards the favor of the upgraded hardware. While we can suspect some games that currently offer 4 person cooperative play due to restrictions, we can also bet that’ll be safe to assume we’ll see those same games on the Neo to offer double that if not triple it due to the new memory capabilities. Unfortunately, we’ve not heard anything from Sony quite yet, but with E3 just around the corner? Expect some possibly large news.

The long run question is though? What will Sony put as the price tag? Will they cut down the cost on the older models to offer a better business model for consumers or will we see the new PlayStation 4 “Neo” surpass the PS4 and remain at the same price tag for those who want 4K gaming and for those that don’t? Seems like we’ll find out when the time comes.

Capcom Announces New Features for Umbrella Corps.

Resident Evil has become a staple point in the gaming industry, but also has become a franchise that will turn heads with new games. Today Capcom has confirmed that new features will be getting introduced to Umbrella Corps such as the Antarctic Base from Resident Evil Code: Veronica and also a new a new mutation to the game titled the “Mutated Zombie” starting on the games release on June 21st, 2016.

Mutated_Zombie_psd_jpgcopy

Just like in the title “Resident Evil Code: Veronica”, the base has remained heavily destroyed after the events of Claire’s ongoing fight to live through there. The base itself will offer vertically expansion gameplay as players will take place across three floors while encountering thrilling fast-paced combat in a deadly game of “hide-and-seek”. While the t-virus has remained rampant within the base, there has been time for these new “Mutated Zombies” that will be experienced through the games “Experiment Mode” of Antarctic Base and the Multi-Mission Mode’s SP DNA  Hunter ruleset. This includes advanced states of mutation and highlights the many versions of the virus spanning from both T-Virus or C-Virus while making the enemies blood thirsty. Harder than normal to defeat some of them will also be immune to the Zombie Jammer allowing them to also make their own kind immune to the Jammer.

Also being added into the shooting mayhem are the special “Mutated Zombies” that can be found in the single player Experiment Mode’s Antarctic Base map and in the Multi-Mission Mode’s SP DNA Hunter ruleset. Featuring advanced states of mutation, there are many viruses spreading across the infected zones in Umbrella Corps and it’s unclear whether the T-virus or C-virus is responsible for these blood thirsty enemies. Harder to defeat than normal zombies, not only are they unaffected by the Zombie Jammer, but they are also able to render the Zombie Jammer temporarily ineffective against other creatures near the player.

Umbrella Corps is a new fast-paced third person shooter set in the iconic Resident Evil universe. The competitive online game will feature quick, intense matches in compact battle zones themed from historic  Resident Evil environments. The game utilizes the Unity engine developed by Unity Technologies.  Umbrella Corps  will be available digitally for an MSRP of $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99 on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and PC across North America and Europe on June 21, 2016.

Batman: Arkham Collection Rumoured for PlayStation 4

batman_arkham_knight_DLC

If you are a rather large fan of Batman: Arkham series, you already know the series is a blast, and the story is an amazing one to experience. As part of the series, Sony has been making a huge stride to become one of the biggest names in gaming, and they are doing it quite well. With this announcement, we have learned that remastering games is nothing new, and the latest one for the crowd is the Batman: Arkham Collection, which will be coming through with Batman: Arkham Asylum and Barman: Arkham City. While we’d be interested to see Batman: Arkham Origins will be apart of said bundle. According to Eurogamer will start going available for pre-order starting tomorrow.

If tomorrow is true, this means we will see an announcement sometime today for fans to begin their pre-orders for the games slated June launch. With this rumor aiming at it for PlayStation 4, we should be seeing the game in 1080p at a smooth and buttery 60fps on the new hardware. If the U.K. magazine Games Master is right, the game will launch in the U.K. on June 10th, which gives us the idea that it could launch on June 3rd for North America.

Now if only we could get BioWare/EA Games to announce the Mass Effect Trilogy for Next-Gen and 2k to announce the BioShock Collection that have been rumoured for a while now.

Tripwire Interactive Brings Rising Storm 2: Vietnam and Killing Floor 2 to PAX East

image002

Whether or not you know the titles, these are two that shouldn’t be easily dismissed as  competitors in the FPS genre. While Rising Storm is an award-winning tactical shooter, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam takes players to the familiar war known as “Vietnam” as the name suggests. The game takes players into a brutal and authentic recreation of the Vietnam War while players are visiting the great city of Boston.

KF2_May_Manor_4

If you aren’t familiar with Killing Floor 2 the name is just as it suggests. With the title once more picking up the helm of where Killing Floor left off with the frantic co-op shooter where fans try to survive hordes of zombies that seek to do one thing: consume flesh. In this game players work side-by-side in order to fight through brutal hordes of enemies. However, the version you’ll be seeing? Won’t be the PC version that we’ve been covering since it’s Early Access launch thanks to the press teams that we correspond with. Kill Strain for PlayStation 4 has a Limited Access Code Everyone Can Use – Limited Time

kill-strain-12-6-14-1

If you haven’t heard about Kill Strain, I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s a game that has been on my radar for around a year and a half now. While what little I know about it has been just that, it’s been hard to not make it a focal point to get into when I got the chance. With Sony being hard to contact, I’ve cringed a bit, but was fortunate enough to get into the Closed Beta via the PlayStation 4’s “Events” tab. Here I was able to find Kill Strain’s “Play With the Dev’s” type ordeal, and to be honest? What I found is a unique title that blends top-down double joystick shooting with MOBA, but with three teams. The three teams consist of one mutant/zombie (starting out, can be upgraded by mutating corpses during the match), versus two teams of humans. The objective? Destroy an enemy teams base to win. That means mutants or opposing humans. Whichever.

While you might be wondering how to get in on this? We have you covered on that in case you’re working this weekend and don’t have time to go hunt around on the PS4 “Events” to get in on this. So here’s the dates:

Starting on 4/21/2016, players can register up for this event and use the code the developer, Sony Studio San Diego has provided for anyone, and everyone to use starting now. The catch? The code, we seem to be sure of, expires by 10pm on the same day. So you have from now, till the 9pm or 10:30pm mark (CST) to access the game. The code below needs to be redeemed via the PlayStation Store on either PlayStation 4 or the PlayStation App/Website. Make sure to sign up for the event, however. It’ll be worth it.

A22M-69NJ-3RJE

We’ll see you on the battlefield, friends.
