Eidos-Montréal is preparing fans for the upcoming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy with an all-new developer trailer that will take fans behind the game with the games Art Director at Eidos-Montréal as he discusses the character designs of the game.
Since the release of Marvel’s Avengers, Square Enix and their teams are no stranger to what it takes to impress their fans. Whether it’s heartfelt stories or original narrative designs, they’re welcoming the chance to bring an entirely new experience to the Marvel name and they’re working to do it right.
As of today, Eidos-Montréal has released an all-new developer insight trailer which gives fans a look at the inspiration behind the character designs in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and its unique take on pre-existing characters.
To do so, Bruno Gauthier-Leblanc, the Art Director at Eidos-Montréal, reveals what they’ve had to do in order to draw inspiration from the wider Marvel universe with the original narrative of the game, and just how it works with designing each character in the game itself.
“When designing the Guardians, it was important they remained true to the narrative we had built while still being instantly recognisable as the Guardians of the Galaxy fans know and love. We combined inspiration from Marvel comic lore with our own character backstories to craft new visuals for this fun and dysfunctional family, infusing each Guardian with specific design aspects that also tie into gameplay,” explains Gauthier-Leblanc.
To help bring it to life, they’ve had to draw a lot of inspiration into characters like Star-Lord who is known for his rock-and-roll space pirate-like persona as well as his want to be the leader of the Guardians. You’ll find that his entire attire draws heavily on his love for his ‘80s childhood and a tribute to his favorite rock band called Star-Lord.
In a different comparison, there’s also Drax who’s known for his extensive history as a combatant shows throughout his body. Each katathian scarification upon his body, many know he’s a strong warrior and a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. You can learn more about them in the trailer teaser below, including how interwoven designs helped bring Rocket and Groot to life.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be coming to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Consoles with Cloud streaming versions for Nintendo Switch and GeForce Now on October 26th, 2021 being available in select regions.
