Ubisoft Connect brings cross-play and progression to Ubisoft games

Ubisoft is no stranger for pushing next-gen features on their games. To continue that tradition, Ubisoft has revealed Ubisoft Connect, a new cross-play and cross-progression service for Ubisoft games.

As Ubisoft prepares for the next-generation of gaming to launch, the company has begun to take the steps necessary in order to bring their services together under one single roof. To do that, Ubisoft has revealed that they are combining both their Uplay and Ubisoft Club services together in order to create Ubisoft Connect.

This new service will support cross-play as well as cross-progression for a wide variety of Ubisofts games including their highly-anticipated title, Watch Dogs: Legion, which will launch side-by-side with the service on Oct. 29th, 2020.

The new service, Ubisoft Connect, will offer a combination of both loyalty and community features. Fans will still be able to earn various rewards as they work their way through their games, just as they have int he past, using Uplay.

Ubisoft has descrived the service as an “ecosystem of players services for Ubisoft games across all platforms,” which makes it seem their previous titles might also be included, which is nice for their games as a service titles such as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Rainbow Six: Siege, and The Division 2.

“This more social and personalized gaming experience also comes with a newsfeed interface gathering friends’ activities and achievements, while a brand-new “Smart Intel” feature brings players dedicated tips and video recommendations based on their game activities. Each player will have access to data on their personal stats and playstyle to keep improving or compare with select groups of friends through an improved leaderboard system,” explains Ubisoft.

However, Ubisoft has stressed that features may be limited depending ont he title as well as the platform they are played on, “Designed for a new gaming era, one where players expect to be able to play, progress and stay in touch with friends anywhere, Ubisoft Connect lays the foundation that will enable Ubisoft’s games and services to live across platforms and make cross-platform features a standard moving forward.

As part of this commitment, full cross-progression, across all platforms and services, will be available with some of Ubisoft’s most highly anticipated upcoming titles, including Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Riders Republic.”

Much like how things are now with the Ubisoft Club, the new Ubisoft Connect service will allow players to earn rewards as they have before, but this time, they can also earn Ubisoft Account levels, which will increase by completing challenges, earning Ubisoft Connect XP, and just simply enjoying the games they do today.

New items that can be earned can include weapon skins, costumes, and even consumables depending on the titles played. Ubisoft has also revealed that they will be giving all rewards, totaling more than 1,000 of them, from all previous games to the players.

“Next-generation gaming goes beyond technological improvements and better graphics. To us, as a creator and publisher, it is about bringing more fluidity and versatility in the experience to have the freedom to play games on whatever device and with whoever you want,” says Stephanie Perotti, Ubisoft’s Vice-President of Online Services.

“Ubisoft Connect is our take on a new seamless experience to not only ease the transition between generations and platforms, but also be the starting point for new services that further contribute to new, more player-centric ways of enjoying games,” Perotti explains a bit more about the upcoming service.

The new service will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One Xbox Series X/S, Switch, iOS, Android, and Web on October 29th, 2020.
