If you’ve been working hard to survive out there in the night, in the dark, and in the cold with Will Mackenzie, your wait is finally over as a new episode has officially dropped, parting ways with Will and introducing us to Dr. Astrid Greenwood in The Long Dark Episode Three: Crossroads Elegy.

As hard as it may be to have expected the news, Hinterland hasn’t given up on their critically-acclaimed title The Long Dark, a game that has become a unique entity of its own. As part of their announcement, Hinterland has revealed that players will be parting ways with Will Mackenzie for a brand-new character by the name of Dr. Astrid Greenwood.

Her story will tell a familiar one, but from a new point of view as she gives us her own unique story of survival and exploration. The episode has been unlocked and made free for all of those that own the WINTERMUTE series.

Those that opt to purchase The Long Dark will be able to pick up the base game as well as its previous episodes, updates, and content, free of charge, while 3.3 million fans have already received Episode Three: Crossroads Elegy free of charge as part of their purchase.

“We’re thrilled to finally be able to share part of Astrid’s story with our players,” said Hinterland founder and creative director, Raphael van Lierop. “Episode Three introduces new characters, new gameplay systems, and new plot arcs that reveal more about the nature of our Quiet Apocalypse. We can’t wait to hear what players think about our latest work on The Long Dark.”

Those that want to experience the game can do so by purchasing it on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One today.
