Fans are reporting that they are unable to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version of the game if they own the PS4 version and are struggling to get any answers from either Sony or Wizards of the Coast.
Since its launch, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance has been plagued with issuesin regards to performance, gameplay, and functionality for online play. There has also been another issue that even members of our own team and community have been facing, and if you head to Discord, it’s a real problem: No one can access the “Free Upgrade” that publisher Wizards of the Coast states on the case is available.
One trip to the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 5 will also tell you the same thing: There’s not a digital version of the PlayStation 5 version for download or even purchase. Why? Well, no one knows and the answers have been unclear. One user stated on the official Discord in an email they received that Sony had addressed the issue by telling them to contact Wizards of the Coast only to be told that they needed to contact Sony.
The confusion also arises due to the developers not responding to fans when asked about the state of the free upgrade or even the bugs that are preventing cross-generation play between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 builds of the game. Another issue? No one can seem to have a straight answer on whether this is a publisher issue or simply a Sony issue in regards to the digital version of the game for PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 upgrade.
Some have even taken to Twitter to voice their frustration:
For what it’s worth: You can at least obtain a next-gen copy through an online purchase at any major retailer. Stay tuned for our upcoming review.
