With the Soulsborne genre at its peak, developers around the world are looking to provide the next major challenge in the genre. Now, we have another entry on the way from independent London-based studio, Cold Symmetry.

When it comes to the Soulsborne genre, we all crave more. There’s no doubt about it. We love the challenge the franchise has to offer, constantly rolling the fan of the genre in the dirt when it can and then kicking them while their down; offering them a chance to learn from their mistakes they previously made.

Recently known as Dungeonhaven, Cold Symmetry has since renamed their project title to Mortal Shell, a title that will follow through with the ruthless traditions of the Soulsborne genre, punishing players at every chance they can for not paying attention or just simply rushing through every encounter they can.

In their reveal trailer, Cold Symmetry gives us a first look at the brutal combat fans can prepare to enjoy including their beyond imaginative and beautifully crafted world as well as the foes that call their home. The big surprise about this games reveal? It is being developed by a team that worked on some of the biggest AAA titles on the market, but produced by a core team of just 15 people.

For a small team like ours, developing this title in many ways felt like crossing an ocean on a paddleboard,” the studio’s three co-founders – Andrew McLennan-Murray, Anton Gonzalez, and Vitaly Bulgarov – said in a joint statement. “To finally announce Mortal Shell is one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences we’ve had in our lifetimes. The last two years have been a time of non-stop growth, full of shocking revelations of sheer complexity that goes into creating a video game that you, yourself, would really enjoy playing.

Mortal Shell is expected to release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in Q3 of 2020 and will have a limited closed beta, which fans can sign up for on the official website for Mortal Shell today.
