During the Square Enix E3 2019 Showcase, the company gave us an in-depth look of their upcoming game, including a confirmed release date, and an in-depth look at core gameplay elements of their upcoming game.
During Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY VII: A Symphonic Reunion orchestral performance yesterday during E3, the publisher revealed that fans of the PlayStation classic, will get to embark on a new journey with the reimagined title starting on PlayStation 4 on March 3rd, 2020, with other platforms to come at a later date.
As part of their announcement, Square Enix has also revealed that the game will be two Blu-ray discs worth the content, giving us an idea of just how absolutely big the game actually is, but also, what kind of experience we should expect to have as part of the overall experience.
Along with the idea of just how long and large the first part of two actually is, Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase both took to the stage to outline what to expect. One of the major features fans should expect is the combat to have been changed quite a bit, but much our surprise, the combat system isn’t going to leave out the actual party system, Limit Breaks, Summons, or even materia systems fans know and love.
Rather, they’re all incorporated into the core gameplay elements just as they were back on the original PlayStation release. In the upcoming title, combat will seem familiar to both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts fans thanks to its use of an attack and skill-based menu that will allow players to choose between the actions they wish to use.
Meanwhile, swapping to another party member can be quickly done using buttons on the top of the controller, allowing for players to swap between active members of the party on the fly, using them for different combat scenarios, and helping optimize the functionality of each and every situation.
For those curious of what was revealed. You can check out the official trailer up above and the gameplay demo from the IGN YouTube channel down below.
Square Enix has also revealed a Collector’s Edition of the game, which will be available exclusively through the Square Store featuring a Play Arts Kai figurine of Cloud on his bike alongside his trademark Buster Sword and his outfit from his days as a member of the Soldier ranks. You can find out more about it starting today. Supplies are only available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
