Shang Tsung is on his way as actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa will be reprising the role of his the character he portrayed in the 1995 movie ‘Mortal Kombat’. Prepare to claim some souls!
Teased as the first of six planned downloadable characters for Mortal Kombat 11, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios have given us our first glimpse of the fan-favorite fighter, the soul-stealing sorcerer Shang Tsung.
As part of his DLC, NetherRealm Studios has revealed that Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa will be once more reprising his role, allowing him to take the souls of those around him, giving him their abilities, and their fighting styles momentarily during a match. He will be joined by Nightwolf and Sindel at a later date. Until then, the team has given us an official gameplay trailer to take a gander at ahead of the characters launch on June 18th, 2019, for all available platforms.
Due to the content of the trailer, we can’t show off the content, but here’s basically what you need to know about Shang Tsung himself. The fighter can control the soul of fallen fighters such as Ermac, Smoke, and living opponents such as Raiden. Doing so enables him to use their abilities in and outside of matches.
This includes his ability to steal their souls, unleash fireballs, and even teleport across an arena. Alongside the announcement of Shang Tsung comes the reveal of Todd McFarlane character, Spawn, who will be making his third video-game appearance, second as a guest star in a fighting game.
