Already being praised as one of the strongest cRPG sequels to date, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is preparing to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In order to prepare for the upcoming launch later this month, Bandai Namco and Larian Games have announced a new Arena Mode for the game.

Announced today by developer Larian Studios and publisher Bandai Namco, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is set to receive a new and improved Arena Mode at the time of its launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 31, 2018. As part of the newly revamped Arena Mode, players will get to take on new challenges in both online and offline modes via PvE and PvP modes respectively.

Along with this new update to the games already existing Arena Mode, Larian Studios has also confirmed that the game will feature a Hot Seat Mode that will allow you to play with your friends no matter where you are. The new mode will introduce 16 total characters to the game, some being first-time ever playable characters such as Malady, Zandalor, and Radeka. Larian Studios has confirmed that each of them will come with their own unique set of skills and abilities to use.

The arena mode will contain two game modes including both Classic Deathmatch and Kill the King. In Classic Deathmatch, players will find themselves pitted against one another until only one remains. This means the entire goal is to wipe out their opposing players as quickly as possible to ensure that they are the victor. In Kill the King, each team must protect their VIP from death and must fight off against one another as each team seeks to eliminate one another.

As part of the Arena mode itself, there will be 13 maps in total, each one optimized for Divinity: Original Sin 2’s unique gameplay style, which includes 5 brand new arenas to enjoy. Each map will contain three unique types of chests that can be looted during the course of the fight. Each one will be defined such as Destruction, Control and Source Coffers. Each of these coffers will contain a scroll of the aforementioned type, making them useful over the course of a battle.

This newly revamped mode will also include Mutators, which can give skills or change the parameters of a battle during each Arena match. This means some rounds may have a Movement Mutator which will give magical wings to all Heroes on the field, allowing them to travel great distances compared to normal while another will be Sudden Death, causing Heroes to have their health reduced to a single hit status. Of course, the mutations can be customized by the host at their every whim.

With this new amazing slice of tactical RPG excellence that is the newly revamped Arena Mode, fans will have a lot to look forward to after beating the critically-acclaimed story experience that Divinity: Original Sin 2 has to offer starting on August 31, 2018.
