During GDC, Publisher Spike Chunshoft has announced a hefty line-up of upcoming games, many ranging across multiple genres, but one specific one has been getting a lot of attention out of the lot: Zanki Zero: The Last Beginning. This recently announced title is expected to launch on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC via Steam.
While this latest title does not have a release date, Zanki Zero and the mechanics it will ship with have been outlined in a new trailer, which can be seen down below. In the game, players will set forth, exploring the ruins and dungeons of a post-apocalyptic world as one of the games eight protagonists.
Much like the Danganronpa series, death will play a critical role in Zanki Zeri: Last Beginning. Unlike Danganronpa, however, death plays an important role not just in the story, but also within Zanki Zero’s gameplay mechanics. As players explore the ruins and dungeons of the games post-apocalypse world, players will “fight for survival and search for meaning in their never-ending cycles of life and death,” Spike Chunsoft states.
While fighting for survival, players will have to hunt for food, gather materials, and even battle monsters in this first-person dungeon crawling title. As both a survival title and an RPG game, players will have to sleep, eat, and even find time to take bathroom breaks while managing their extremely limited time on the planet. Unfortunately, no one knows quite what is going on and it’s up to players to uncover the truth behind the world we know and love.

God created the world in seven days. It only took one day for humans to destroy the
world. Life as we knew it sank to the depths of the sea…until yesterday. We do not
yet know the broken world and the reasons left behind there. An earth where ruins
drift about. Buildings, houses, light posts. Cars, traffic lights, asphalt… Modern
civilization was destroyed, becoming nothing more than debris wading in the sea.
New ruins drift one after the other before the protagonist, who lives on one of those
decaying islands.

Currently, Zanki Zero: Last Beginning does not have a release date but is set to release on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC at a later date.
