Bohemia Interactive wasn’t purchased by Tencent and the company is clearing the air in order to let their fans know that they are to remain an independent studio.

Yesterday, there’d been reports circulating that Tencent had acquired a stake in famed Arma and DayZ developer, Bohemia Interactive, in a reach to buy the studio. In order to dispel any news that a purchase had been made, Bohemia Interactive CEO, Marek Španěl has confirmed that Bohemia Interactive has and will remain an independent studio as they have not made any deals with Tencent at the time of writing.

“I just wanted to let you know that the information circulated by various major media sources about Bohemia Interactive acquired by Tencent is not true,” reads Španěl’s statement. “We were talking to numerous potential partners in the past about possible strategic cooperation, and we may do so in the future as well — but as of now, we remain an independent studio.”

To air out any frustration or unsureness about any acquisitions, “I am just an old man working on games for more than 30 years of my life. But the valuation circulated in the media sounds tempting. Maybe I should think about my retirement plans after all now? Any better offers” stated Španěl in regards to potential, future, partnerships.

“Anyway, I guess in the meantime I should get back to work to help our Team Bohemia to continue work on our existing and future games. And last but not least, I want to thank this amazing community for the support over the years. Without you, Arma, DayZ, and Bohemia Interactive could never achieve this major success in the world of games,” Španěl concluded.

While at this time it seems any form of partnership or acquisition of Tencent seems unlikely, let’s not rule it out, Tencent has continued to invest in-game and media companies in order to grow their reach.
