Today, CI Games and Defiant Studios will be teaming up for the highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s Lords of the Fallen. Currently, there is no release date for the game and a release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has been confirmed by publisher Focus Home Interactive.

Since 2014, it seemed that Lords of the Fallen would fall into silence without a sequel, but would remain known as a part of the highly beloved Soulsborne genre that has taken the world by storm. Despite the games, fast-paced combat, empowering magical abilities, and a rather complex, but enjoyable melee combat system, Lords of the Fallen seemed as if it would fall into silence for an unknown amount of time.

However, CI Games and Defiant Studios have decided to break that silence, revealing that the 2 million units sold title will indeed be receiving a sequel, and they are dedicated to delivering the quality fans deserve from a sequel of the original title. This partnership will serve as an important step for this to happen. With Defiant Studios being a privately held indie studio compromised of industry veterans from top-selling AAA franchises.

The team at Defiant Studios has developers experienced in multi-million dollars such as their cofounders who were the former studio head and gamer director of Avalanche Studios New York, the team behind Just Cause 3. The partnership has also come to help demonstrate the ability of two teams coming together in order to deliver the quality gaming experiences that fans expect from the games they purchase.

“We talked to a number of globally respected studios that had shown a strong interest in making the next LotF, and received several solid pitches. We finally decided to move forward with Defiant because we were impressed with their game concept, production expertise, and the pedigree of their developers,” said CI Games Chief Executive Officer, Marek Tymiński. “Defiant is made up of some the industry’s most talented creators, and we are thrilled to have them create the sequel to LotF. We look forward to bringing their next big game to the global market on consoles and PC.”

On the collaboration between CI and Defiant, Founder and Managing Director of Defiant Studios, David Grijns said, “We have been talking with CI Games for several months now, and went through a detailed process of getting to know one another’s expectations and motivations in regards to Lords of the Fallen 2. We are happy that we can commit our studio to developing a great game in a well-established franchise. Our team has been excited about the chance to make the next LotF from the moment we started to work on our pitch for CI. We are particularly thrilled about the creative freedom that CI Games is willing to offer.”

As part of their move forward, CI has confirmed that Defiant Studios will be the primary team behind the development of Lords of the Fallen 2.

Tymiński emphasized, “Signing the next LotF with Defiant is a very important step for CI Games as a publisher. We look forward to continue teaming up with third-party developers to help bring their projects to global audiences, and are invested in building long-term relationships. For the past several months we have been in discussions with many talented studios from around the world, and will soon have more to share about the outcomes of those discussions. This marks the beginning for CI Games in terms of the product portfolio we have been building for the coming years.”

While the news does come as surprising, it does mean that CI Games is dedicated to the growth of their brand and franchises, and could very well see a very bright future for their upcoming game. While the company has not confirmed a release window for Lords of the Fallen 2, we do expect some news regarding the upcoming release during E3 2018, where Focus Home Interactive has revealed they will be present, showing off upcoming titles such as The Surge 2, Insurgency: Sandstorm, and other upcoming titles.
