Pokémon Sword and Shield will be getting two expansions in 2020, one launching in June while the other set to release in the Fall of 2020. The expansion pass is available via the eShop for pre-order today. Here’s what you need to know.
During the Nintendo Direct yesterday, Nintendo and Game Freak confirmed two new expansions for their smash-hit Nintendo Switch title, one we’re ramping up our review for over the course of the next few days. With the announcement, Game Freak and Nintendo revealed that two expansions will indeed be apart of the upcoming release.
The first one, The Isle of Armor, will be released this June while The Crown Tundra will launch later on in the Fall of 2020. Game Freak revealed that this will replace their releasing two follow up titles later in the cycle, stating that the two expansions will further open up the Galar region and letting players continue with their existing save files.
As part of the announcement, Game Freak revealed that more than 200 new Pokémon will be added to the list, including new legendaries, new Gigantamax forms, and even all-new Pokémon that have yet to be seen within the series. In order to keep fans who don’t have the expansions at the time of their respective releases, Game Freak and Nintendo did confirm that new updates will be released alongside the expansions so fans can continue on with catching the newly added Pokémon.
The free updates will not contain the new gyms and or accessories for those players. Players who do opt to get the expansions will see both Sword and Shield’s story continue on. The Expansion pass will cost $29.99 and is available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop.
