Today, SEGA has announced that they will be bringing back a series of classic SEGA titles on the Nintendo Switch. Developed by M2, the famed Japanese developer known for their high-quality ports of classic games, will be the ones responsible for the high-quality ports players will get to enjoy on their Nintendo Switch.
Originally having released as SEGA Ages Vol. 1 Shukudai ga Tant-R, a compilation of enhanced arcade ports of Puzzle & Action: Tant-R and Quiz Shukudai wo Wasurmashita, released on the Sega Saturn in 1996 in Japan. Since then, the collection of SEGA Ages titles has grown tremendously. In order to help fans enjoy some SEGA classic titles, SEGA has announced that Vol. 1 of SEGA Ages will include enhanced versions of the following titles:
- Alex the Kidd in Miracle World
- Phantasy Star
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Thunder Force IV
- Gain Ground
While this release will be the first time release of several of these titles, fans can enjoy them on their Nintendo Switch this coming Summer. Stay tuned as we wait to find out more regarding this upcoming release of SEGA classic titles.

Over time, the SEGA Ages series grew to encompass enhanced ports of dozens of games across multiple systems. The series also made an appearance in the West with SEGA Ages: Volume 1, a collection of enhanced ports of Space Harrier, OutRun, and After Burner II, released in 1997 on the Sega Saturn. Now, SEGA AGES is being rebooted on the Nintendo Switch™, delivering the most faithful ports of Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, and arcade games for the current generation. As you would expect from the retro geniuses at M2, these games will stay true to their original forms while incorporating new features that bring a refreshing twist to these classic titles’ gameplay.
