MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries’ expansion Legend of the Kestrel Lancers to release later this month

Developer Piranha Games is preparing to expand the landscape of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries with all-new content coming to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms this September 23rd with the Legend of the Kestrel Lancers content drop as well as other major updates to the base game.

It’s still hard to believe that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is as big as it is. It’s also hard to believe that the universe within the game is about to get even bigger. In a recent announcement, Piranha Games has revealed that they are going to be expanding MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries with the release of a new expansion called Legend of the Kestral Lancers.

The new expansion will arrive with the base game on PlayStation consoles on September 23rd, 2021, with a simultaneous release on PC and Xbox platforms on the exact same day. The updates will be available on PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store on that very day. The new updates and the new expansion will bring in all-new experiences for longtime fans and will provide a more accessible entry point to all-new pilots.

The new expansion will depart from the original sandbox structure that fans will easily recognize from previous titles. The departure shifts the series to a more story-focused experience, allowing players to experience a new story that takes place within the well-established “Fourth Succession War” conflict. The story will be spread across 14 missions and seven “Battle Quests” that will let players experience large-scale conflicts set on all-new custom battlegrounds.

The release will also come with improved urban warfare that awaits pilots in Mega Cities, which are, well, what they sound like. They are absolutely massive Urban Centers where players will find themselves engaged in all-out combat. There’s also the all-new All-Out War scenarios that will be released alongside the expansion.

These scenarios allow players to make their own squad of mechs that will serve as a large force on the battlefield and will allow players to customize battle to their liking. The release also comes with 20 new Mech variants, new Jungle and Tourmaline Desert biomes, and a wide array of procedurally generated missions that will change how players experience combat.

There’s also the all-new update to the base game that fans can enjoy if they decide to hold off on obtaining the expansion. This new DLC introduces Melee Combat, allowing players to get up and become up-close and personal friends with their enemies. Players will also be able to switch between any of the game’s AI-controlled Lance ‘Mechs during a mission that they are on.

This will allow them to add some variety and sense of variation in what they do as they play.  Not a bad day for you Lancers looking to get into the action and ensure that victory is yours. Of course, this wouldn’t be a great victory if it wasn’t stated that a physical release of the game is slated for this November with a release date and more details to be announced at a later time.
