BlizzCon 2018: Diablo fans are not happy with Diablo Immortal

Necromancer_2

During BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard entertainment took to the stage in order to reveal their new and massive Diablo project. Unfortunately, the latest entry has left fans with a sour taste in their mouth after learning Net Ease and Blizzard’s latest project is a mobile MMO-style game. Here’s what you need to know.

There’s no doubt about it. Everyone wants a piece of the mobile game market pie. It’s massive and quite frankly, there’s a lot of money to be had. Microtransactions run rampant within mobile games, enticing players with the idea of better loot, more customizations and ways to make the game their very own.

However, what we don’t know about Blizzard’s latest Diablo title called Diablo Immortal is a whole lot of what the game isn’t. We know it is set to take place between Diablo II and Diablo III, explaining the story behind all the events that happened between those very two entries.

Due to how long the games are between one another, there’s a lot that has and a lot that hasn’t happened, giving a perfect place for an expansion to drop and take adventurers to a place in the past with Diablo III. But, instead, Blizzard announced a mobile game, one that fans from around the world were not all thrilled to see.

While the game certainly seems to have a lot of excitement coming about from the team, fans themselves are having major reservations about the game. Others not near as much, but they do have reservations for rather good reasons.

Fans around the world are expressing themselves across Reddit, across Twitter and other social media outlets, but as we all know, no one is very happy and even a few members of our very own team were a bit taken back when watching the Diablo Immortal keynote early Friday afternoon.

Several have already said they won’t be opting in for the private beta nor will they even consider it post-launch due to the fact it looks like a reskinned version of the mobile game Endless of God, by none-other-than Diablo Immortal co-developer, Net Ease.

And their sentiments have been shared across social media.

Even now, fans are still expressing their frustration with the announcement, some using famed Diablo characters from Diablo III: Reaper of Souls for their attempts to nudge Blizzard in the ribs while remaining entirely serious about how they feel regarding the game.

It even went far enough that one fan attending BlizzCon 2018 even asked Wyatt Cheng, Principle Game Designer at Blizzard Entertainment if it was an out of season April Fool’s joke.

On the official YouTube channel’s BlizzCon trailer, fans have been revealing their deepest feelings towards the latest reveal and even their distaste for the upcoming mobile game. Some even reporting that Blizzard has been deleting their YouTube comments.

The trailer itself is sitting at 154K dislikes with only 5.3K likes on YouTube at the time of writing. But, not all fans are mad. Some are even expressing their interest in the upcoming title.

Some have even rallied to point out the negativity among the fans as well as the double standards regarding the appraisal of a Switch game versus a mobile title.

Whichever side of the fence you are on, Diablo Immortal is on its way and NetEase alongside Blizzard is going to make it happen. The only question we now have? Can they make it happen without a hitch?

Diablo 3: Eternal Collection is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

  1. There’s nothing wrong with a mobile spin-off, but that’s something one would announce to the press. Bad idea to promote at Blizzcon when there was so much Diablo hype going into the event. What really hurts the company’s reputation is the way they have handled the feedback. Comments and dislikes are getting removed on their YouTube trailer.
