As originally announced by Nintendo earlier this year, the publisher and developer of Splatoon 2 have confirmed the final stage coming to their smash-hit title, which will see its flow of new content end as promised in 2018. Now, the deadline is quickly approaching with the reveal of the final new map to be added.
When it comes to all good things, all of them must come to an end and that even means seeing a steady flow of content for a Nintendo’s superlative online shooter just before its support comes to an end this Oct. While this doesn’t mean the game will go offline, Nintendo has confirmed they are moving on and will cease to add new content into their smash-hit game.
The newest map to be revealed is called Skipper Pavilion and sets the pace in its labyrinthine walkways that surround an old temple somewhere on the outskirts of the town we’ve come to know and love called Inkopolis. In an official Twitter post, Nintendo describes the map to fit the lore of the series, “Some Inklings believe that visiting this mystical place can help win Turf Wars.”
While there is a hint that we could see more content introduced to Splatoon 2, the content may not be new by any means. Instead, we could be seeing Nintendo re-release some of Splatoon‘s maps get released in the future, both before or after the end of the year. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen one such thing happen as Nintendo has already released eight classic maps into Splatoon 2 including Camp Triggerfish, Kelp Dome, and Moray Towers make their way into the game.
In the tweets, Nintendo has not released any specific release dates for any new additions to the game, but rather, it seems that they still have some work that probably needs to be done before this final stage releases and Splatoon 2 begins to wrap-up its show just in time for the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch. Nintendo had originally stated that the support would end for Splatoon 2 until July 2018, which has now seemingly been extended until this December as reported by Gaming Bolt.
While we await the release of the upcoming stage, you can check out our review of Splatoon 2 today, which was scored at an 8 out of 10 in July of 2017. As Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy once said, “so long and thanks for all the fish,” if things truly come to an end for this spectacular title.
