PUBG’s Anti-Cheat Methods and Pre-game Lobbies Changes Detailed

As PUBG continually breaks every record possible in gaming, there’s no doubt that there’s still a lot of work left to be done as the game’s post-release development continues. But what changes are about to be made to the 100 people on a single island duking it out in a no-holds-barred fight? They’re about to get put into time out.

For those unfamiliar with how PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds known more passionately as PUBG by adoring fans, consists of a single phase before the game truly begins. During this time, the pregame lobby would host all 100 players (you and 99 others) in a single area where players could duke it out infinitely until the match began.

However, it seemed the developers have found that this approach to the pregame lobbies actually didn’t help the game at all. Instead, they’ve found they actually hinder the performance of the game, limiting what the game is capable of and ultimately making it a bit harder on some gaming setups.

To help alleviate the performance problems, players are getting put into time out as they are spread out throughout the map, allowing smaller numbers of players to be in the same location at a single time. According to PUBG Corp., this approach should improve network performance once the match actually begins.

Lots of interaction among multiple players in such a small area had a high impact on the servers. To solve this, we have introduced multiple areas where players gather before the match start,” the developer stated in their blog post.

They’ve also announced that they are working on a new anti-cheat method as well in order to help remove problematic players from the game. They have stated that this new approach could destabilize the game on PC when they testing it out. This means the game may or may not start for some players, accusing them of possible cheating software and make it so that they are unable to play the game.

If you do encounter this issue, please note, they are aware, but it may be a good idea to report when this incident occurs and what programs you do or don’t have running at the time the error occurs. Now let’s just cross our fingers, our toes, and our eyes and hope that these new upgrades help enhance the player experience.
