At E3, we were introduced to the first look at the upcoming title Mass Effect: Andromeda, which will mark the first release since the day that we all witnessed Commander Shepard take out the Reaper threat. As of E3, Bioware unveiled the first trailer that highlights what fans like us here at Blast Away the Game Review can expect to see during the holiday 2016 period. This time around, we have learned from both Aaryn Flynn, Studio General Manager, BioWare Canada, and Yanick Roy, Studio Director, BioWare Montreal, that they began to plan around this title in early 2013, which helped them begin to work on what Mass Effect: Andromeda would do.

As seen in the trailer, we learned that the game will be a new adventure, taking place far away and in a very distant future from the original trilogy we came to know and love. While players once more will return playing male or female, we won’t know what our characters will look like thanks to the first cinematic trailer. All we do know? That galactic map as well as the armour looks amazing, and so does the return of the new as well as very improved Mako. What we do know is that the trailer was built using D.I.C.E.’s Frostbite engine, the teams game engine, but also the visual appeal that they are aiming at for the final product, but we also learned that the focus of the game is dedicated to the current gen consoles (PS4 and X1), but also maxing out current gen PC’s.

All we know? Holiday 2016 can’t come soon enough.

Our Take:

There’s no secret that I, myself, am truly excited about this title. Having invested a literal combined hour spend of 265 hours just with the original trilogy (my total hour spent was much, much, much higher), I can only say that this series is one I am excited to see return, and will definitely be a day one pick. If anything shows, BioWare is looking to truly impress us with improved features, new mechanics, new designs, and hopefully a much deeper character customization tool that will draw us in even more as we explore a very different time and space than we knew before.
