Before I truly begin discussing DOOM and it’s unveil at E3, there’s a few words I would like to say on behalf of myself, and our team here at Blast Away the Game Review in remembrance of one of id Software’s ambitious, young, and well spoken men I got to meet at QuakeCon 2014, and sadly – it was the last time I would ever get to share words or even acknowledge possible friendship we had. In 2014 I got the pleasure of meeting one of id Software’s young talents by the name of Steven Serafin who was the technical producer on DOOM. In memory of him after having met him almost a year ago, we would like to once more, wish our deepest condolences to his family, his friends, and his colleagues who worked with this young man who didn’t get to see past 28. In the life after his death, id Software has continued on with a project that he had begun to help bring alive, by doing so we have gotten to see the glimpse of DOOMs future, which is visceral, dark, and everything that DOOM has made as its signature go to.

Premiered as a worldwide unveiling, ID Software premiered the gameplay that was shown off at QuakeCon 2015, it was beautiful, realistic, and even quite stunning. This time around? It’s just as much so, but even bloodier than before, and even more exciting than ever. With multiple announcements regarding it being faster, bigger, meaner, better, and returning to its roots, it’s no wonder that fans have been howling about the game since it’s world wide unveil at E3 2015, DOOM has become one of the quickest and most spoken about games next to Fallout 4 among other Bethesda titles. This time around we are returning once more to the Hell infested UAC base that we had once known. Unlike before, enemies are meaner, more aggressive and challenge you to rush them with things such as finishers, big weapons, and the return of the ever-so-famous Super Shotgun. With this demon infested campaign players will get to expand their gameplay experience in a first-ever console filled Modding community that will allow players to go through the map service in order to download, upload, and create maps using the Doom SnapMap game editor. This means mods on console has finally come to fruition and will challenge fans to experience the game at its fullest.

With the return of DOOM as a reboot, there’s no surprise that there are a few secrets lurking around the corner. One of them? Is the return of the old-school fast-paced arena-style multiplayer that returns, but this time with a new utilization of all new skill, powerful weapons, vertical movement, and the new unique power-ups that will allow you to become the very demons you bashed across countless battlefields in the campaign, but thanks to the new SnapMap map? The battlefields you fight on will be unique, twisted, and true to the hardcore DOOM fan. When will this game release? Spring 2016. So stay tuned for our upcoming review we will be dying to get to you.

Our Take:

If you were expecting a game with rainbows, unicorns, and kittens – you’re going to need to turn around and go elsewhere. Why? When looking at DOOM from the perspective as to what kind of game it is; DOOM is a game that is visceral, disgusting, and a literal blood bath that makes fans like myself want to come back for more. From a journalist standpoint? The game succeeds in grabbing what made the originals memorable; blood, gore, big weapons, and big ass demons to go up against with anything imaginable in order to take them down. With new things such as ledge climbing, close range kill buffs, and the likes, DOOM will easily set a much needed record for the type of game it is. We just hope the game comes sooner than later with its current state that seems almost completely finished. For those who say this game is too much to look at due to blood, gore, and all the flying viscera? This only means that they did what they were shooting for and made a game that shoots to please those who aren’t faint of heart.
